Amédée Bussière founded Granit Bussière in 1911 in Saint-Sébastien, in the heart of the Granite MRC. At that time, granite blocks were extracted directly from the quarry, then cut manually with hammers and chisels. The cut stones were intended for the construction of schools, churches or town halls.
Amédée's son Roland eventually took over the company and continued operations. Then it was Marc's turn to take over by modernizing production methods and developing new markets. In the late 1990s, Granit Bussière was sold to Polycor, one of the world's largest granite players.
The human-scale company imagines, develops and manufactures unique products in natural stone. The stone is slowly magnified and transformed into creations with a timeless design.
In 2024, Jean-François sold the stone cutting workshop to a long-time partner, Pierre-Luc of Atelier Réno comptoir. In order to better reflect the offer which now focuses on the distribution of furniture and objects that stand the test of time, Atelier Bussière became Matière Bussière.
In 2010, Jean-François Bussière, entrepreneur and artist, honored 3 generations before him by launching Atelier Bussière. With his team, he brings stone to life in a former funeral monument factory in Lac Drolet, in the Eastern Townships.
